Our bodies have entire conversations with one another with no need for vocal chord interruption. Amazing. Photographer Matt Stuart manages to capture these bodies during their unimpressive moments of interaction. Stuart does not capture the obvious ‘holy’ and ‘oh so’ glorious instant of sincerity, anger, adoration, piousness, anguish or loss. After patient perusing of streets awkwardness is found in gesture via the brilliance of street language.
He attaches identities to bodies in their vulnerable states of representation: A man unknowingly strokes Mariah Carey’s chest while reaching for his magazine, A businessman is unaware that he is a sleeping baby among many, a pigeon mocks serious feet in a serious suit.
These are the beautiful gestures captured by the patient Matt Stuart (none of his street photography is staged). Enjoy.
